FAQs
About Pilates
What Is Pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact, highly effective exercise method that focuses on core strength, posture, mobility, and alignment. At Sola Studios in Bathgate, our Pilates classes combine mindful movement and functional strength to help you feel energised, aligned, and confident in your body.
What’s the difference between Reformer Pilates and Mat Pilates?
Reformer Pilates: Uses specialist equipment with springs and resistance to support, challenge, and deepen movements. Great for improving strength, flexibility, and core stability.
Mat Pilates: Uses bodyweight and small props to focus on control, posture, and mobility on the mat.
Both are highly effective. The best choice depends on your goals, fitness level, and experience.
Do I need to be fit to start Pilates?
No. Pilates is designed to meet you where you are. Whether you’re new to exercise or returning after a break, our classes are fully adaptable to your fitness level and needs.
Is Pilates good for weight loss?
Yes. Pilates supports lean muscle development, improved posture, and increased daily movement. While Pilates may not drastically change the scale, it can improve body composition, strength, and confidence.
How many times a week should I do Pilates?
For best results, we recommend 2–3 sessions per week.
Even one class a week can improve strength, posture, and mobility over time.
What should I wear for Pilates?
Wear comfortable, fitted activewear that allows full movement.
- Reformer Pilates: Grip socks are required for hygiene and safety (available to purchase in-studio).
- Mat Pilates: Barefoot or grip socks work well.
